A U-turn has been made on GCSE requirements
Government have made a u-turn on the GCSE requirements nursery staff must have to continue onto doing their level three course. This recent news has been a huge relief for nursery providers as well as nursery staff. The news is Functional skills are to be reinstated as an alternative qualification for Level 3 early years educators
According to Early Minister Caroline Dinenage, the u-turn decision will count from April at the same time as the new Early Years Foundation Stage framework. The decision was shared during a speech launching the government early year’s workforce strategy at the Childcare Expo in London.
The news will now allow nurseries to recruit employees with the equivalent qualifications, whereas previously nurseries were unable to hire staff without the necessary GCSE requirements, as these staff would not have been able to count in ratio.
This U-Turn will hopefully now see employees furthering onto doing their level 3 qualification, which will ease the recruitment crisis for providers.
