Recruitment crisis only getting worse because of exam requirements
According to the National Day Nursery Association nursery workers do not need exam grades to be able to qualify to work with children
Exam requirements of Grade GCSE C in English and Maths is causing a recruitment crisis for many early years settings. Because of this the Government are considering removing the exam requirements.
Many early years settings recently have seen a decrease in the amount of applicants applying and because of this settings are unable to recruit qualified level 3 practitioners.
It has been suggested that applicants who do not have the exam requirement in English and Maths should be able to demonstrate their knowledge in other ways. However some people argue that applicants should have these grades as they are teaching children.
Do people think nursery workers should have GCSE C or above in English and Maths?
Emma says
I’m really hoping the gcse requirements change I’m 38 and have taken up working in a pre school a job I love I’ve done my level 2 but am now held back by the gcse . I’m doing my level 2 in maths and English functional skills which is tough enough at my age while juggling a family and job so keeping my fingers crossed it will change so I can move forward with my career.
