30hrs free childcare to be restricted to good and outstanding childcare settings
What are people’s views ahead of the Government’s workforce strategy on the possibility of the 30hrs free childcare only being available at quality childcare settings?
This move would come in line with the 2 year funding offer. By offering the free entitlement at quality settings it would ensure that children are being offered that quality learning experiences. However do these types of settings have the capacity to offer this childcare is the question?
Many nurseries with that top Ofsted award have waiting lists, causing them the possibility of not being able to offer the free 30hrs childcare and then where will these children go. Restricting the 3ohrs childcare could lead to issues relating to finding those available places.
The whole idea of increasing the free childcare entitlement is to support families with the cost of childcare, but how will restricting the offer help those parents when their nearby nursery doesn’t offer the free entitlement.
What will happen to those nurseries who are offering the 3ohrs free entitlement will this be taken away from them and what about the families and children who are settled at nursery. Many people understand that children need to be offered a good quality start in life but many things need to be thought though before considering this move.
We would like to hear your views on this as some may agree it’s a good move whereas others may state it’s not helping those parents in need of childcare.
Katie Richardson says
The problem is funding money isn’t the same as most nursery’s fees so to double the funding nursery’s would have to lose money, which would mean putting fees up so it would cost paying parents even more which isn’t helping anyone.
