Starting a career in childcare can be very daunting, especially if this is your first career move. Follow our simple steps to help you on your way.

Searching for a childcare job

When searching for your ideal childcare job ensure you have the right qualifications for the job. Once you know what childcare job role you are searching for use our job search facility to help you find that perfect childcare job. If you only have a Level 2 qualification don’t let this put you off searching as many employers look for applicants who are willing to further their training.

Ever thought of volunteering?

If you have very little experience of working with children why not enquire at your local childcare settings about volunteering for a couple of hours a week. This would give you some great hands on experience as well as learning new skills.

Completing background checks

Completing background checks is crucial in order to work with children. Anyone who is in contact with children  either as an employee or volunteer will need to undertake a Disclosure and Barring Service check (DBS). The cost of this normally falls with the employee, however some nurseries may pay for this. For more information on the DBS update service, which is service that allows applicant and employers to carry out checks on a potential employee’s certificate.
