Childcare providers in York turn down 30hrs funding offer
Childcare providers in York have rejected the 30hrs funding amount claiming that they cannot afford to participate in the Government’s scheme. The amount offered is not enough, childcare providers were hoping to receive £4.50 per hour. However, this has not been the case.
From this September the 30 hrs free childcare will be piloted in York and seven other counties. York is the only county to offer the 30 hours in all types of childcare, meaning more children will be able to access the Government’s scheme.
Many childcare providers have voiced their views on the introduction of the 30 hrs, some saying there is no incentive for Childcare providers to take part, with many already having to increase fees due to the rise in the National living wage.
It has been made clear from Childcare providers that the whole scheme has not been thought through properly, it is only the parent and children who are going to suffer. It has meant nurseries are unable to help working parents with childcare.
Let’s hope the Government take the views of childcare providers in York serious and look into the matter further before the scheme is piloted in September.
