Plans to change Children’s Centre and Early Help service in Medway
Due to budget cuts, children centres in Medway are at risk of closure, the risk is due to the changes in governments funding for the early years provision. There have been proposals put forward for Medway council to refocus resources to support children and families who are most in need.
A meeting on Tuesday the 9th of May will decide whether to launch a public consultation on the proposals for children’s centre as well as changes to the early year’s services. The proposals are outlined below;
- Bring the staff from children centres into a single team, basing them in one central place.
- Close all children centres and reinvest the funding into other services
- Create 4 super hub centres, this would enable the help to be spread across other areas
If it was decided that the third option was to go ahead then it would services offered at children centres for newborns to five years would be combined, early help teams would be available to help support families and children aged five and above.
