More nursery places in schools are being promised by the Conservative party
Theresa May has made a pledge that conservatives will create more nursery places in schools, this pledge forms part of their manifesto. If conservatives win the election they will look at helping primary schools provide nurseries and in the future, they will introduce a presumption that any new primary school should have a nursery.
Also included in their manifesto is the confirmation that the 30hrs free childcare scheme for 3 and 4-year-olds will definitely go ahead in Septemeber.
Conservative would also like t0 scrap free school meals for children aged five to seven years and instead offer every child attending primary school a free school breakfast. Children from low-income families will still, however, be able to receive a free school meal.
Other pledges made in the conservative manifesto;
- Support maintained nurseries and allow them to become academies
- Strengthen the teaching of literacy and numeracy in the early years, this would enable children from all backgrounds to get the best possible start in life.
- Make funding fairer so that no school has its budgets cuts
- Build on the success of the phonic screening
