Funding for 30-hour childcare has been increased for York Nurseries
York nurseries made it very clear unless funding was increased they would not be taking part in the 30-hour childcare pilot that was to start in September. The Government listened to the views of owners/managers from nurseries in York and has decided to increase the funding.
The decision for nurseries to withdraw from taking part in the 30-hour childcare policy was purely a financial decision; the funding rate offered meant many nurseries couldn’t afford to take part.
The funding previously offered was £3.95 per hour, this meant nurseries would be only getting £3.88 for the first 15 hours then £3.95 for the other 15 hours, the second 15 hours is only eligible for working parents.
York nurseries will now be receiving £4 an hour for the whole 30hours; this news was welcomed by York nurseries. The 30-hour pilot scheme in York is the only county offering the 30hours to all settings such as PVI nurseries, nursery schools, and childminders.
The 30-hour childcare pilot scheme is to start in September and to be rolled out to the rest of the counties in September 2017.
