90% of nurseries in England have an Ofsted grading of good or outstanding
According to the Early Years regulators latest report, the number of nurseries in England that have been graded as good or outstanding is at it highest ever. Ninety percent of Early Years providers have received high grades from Ofsted, in their overall effectiveness. This includes those settings who have been inspected under the new framework as of September last year.
The North East remain the highest proportion of those graded good or outstanding with a high 96%; whereas London has the lowest proportion with 87%. Over the years, the number of nurseries and childminders across the country has decreased; nurseries by 0.8% and 1.6%.
With the introduction of increased nursery education funding taking place in September next year, it is a possibility that the number of nurseries and childminders with an Ofsted grading of good or outstanding may take a hit. Early Years providers will need to work harder than ever to maintain or improved their grade as their settings are stretched financially.
The decrease in numbers of Early Years providers may impact on the number of funded places that are offered. This can have a detrimental effect on the outcomes of the children that are otherwise unable to access early education.
