Champagne Nurseries for Lemonade Funding! Campaign Day – National Kindergarten Day on 21st April 2016
Press release from Angela Spencer
“We have been overwhelmed with the support so far for our campaign, but now need to really get our messages out there. Our first campaign event is to encourage as many childcare settings as possible to join in National Kindergarten Day. This day honors Friedrich Wilhelm August Frobel (April 21, 1782 – June 21, 1852) who is credited for starting the very first Kindergarten in Germany in 1837. Frobel was a German teacher and a student of Pestalozzi who laid the foundation for modern education based on the recognition that children have unique needs and capabilities. He created the concept of the “kindergarten” through play and activity institute as a social experience for children for their transition from home to school. His goal was that children should be taken care of and nourished in “children’s gardens” like plants in a garden”.
The aim of the day is to get the attention of both the media and Government with a view to opening discussions with Champagne HQ to make the changes our profession so desperately needs. To take part in the day we ask you to:
- Hold an Open Day to showcase your nursery OR Hold a Fun Day just for your children and parents
- Send your MP our standard letter which also includes an invitation to your Open Day
- Invite your parents and hold a ‘placard protest’ using our campaign slogan and words (see below)
- Invite your local media or send them a press release using our template.

Frobel was a pioneer in the concept of nurturing children (especially in their transition from home to school). He believed they should be nurtured like plants in a garden – hence the term ‘Kinder Garten’. Gardening is one of the most beneficial activities for children and can encompass every developmental learning area and so we want you to organize a day of ‘children’s gardening’ to celebrate both National Kindergarten Day and our campaign. We want to showcase how wonderful our childcare settings can be if Government stop their meddling and give us both better funding, support and regulation.
It does not have to be an expensive day, take a look at our activity sheets as they are uploaded or indeed share your ideas with the other campaigners on the campaign Facebook page.
Champagne Nurseries for Lemonade Funding is a growing number of childcare providers, professionals and industry organisations (nurseries, pre- schools, childminders and training facilities etc) frustrated with the constant interference of Government policies. They are campaigning both to end Government meddling and damaging constraints to allow the industry to nurture the children’s highest potential with direct consultation with the industry before effecting future change, and, for better funding for Government initiatives, better recognition for the great childcare already provided, a return to a supportive, consistent and fair regulatory body and professional status for those already in the industry to make it attractive to retain staff and new recruits.
