Having a highly motivated and passionate childcare team can make all the difference, without this the setting may fail. Recognising a team’s hard work and effort can help keep the team motivated and passionate about working with children. Often managers are extremely busy running the day to day of the nursery, communicating with parents, taking payments, etc. and can sometimes forget to appreciate all the hard work that is going on around them.

To help keep your childcare team motivated here are a few top tips on how you can achieve this;

  1. Regularly communicate – Find just 5 to 10 minutes a day talking to your team members and finding out what motivates them and what they are interested in, etc. Taking an interest in what they are doing can build a strong relationship.
  2. Praise them for their achievements – Take a regular walk around the setting and look for achievements along the way. Praise the member of staff for their achievements, recognising someone’s, hard work can make them feel appreciated leading to further motivation.
  3. Teamwork – Teamwork can make all the difference, having a team that values each and everyone’s input can help people feel motivated. Holding regular meetings can allow team members to share their opinions and ideas.
  4. Open door policy – Having an open door policy allows team members the opportunity to talk to management, rather than having to wait. It is far healthier discussing issues earlier rather than letting them build up.
  5. Share same objectives – Having a shared vision that everyone is aware of can help one another fully understand what it is they are doing. Objectives can be as big or as small as they need to be, but don’t forget to share these with the team.

Don’t forget to invest in your team as they are the most valuable part of your business.
