Large amount of families to lose free childcare

Families outraged on missing out on free childcare

The promise to provide free childcare has been broken, up to 18,000 families are now going to lose out on free childcare. The free 30 hrs childcare is in crisis thanks to information shared by labour, leaving a shortage of childcare places.

The stats show 18,000 single mums will be excluded from the 30 hours of childcare promised in the Conservative election manifesto.

How will this now affect those parents who are trying to get back into work but need help with childcare?

Jenny Chapman MP, Labour’s Shadow Childcare Minister, commenting on the survey, said: “This is yet more evidence that the Tories are letting parents down and are breaking their promises to single mums up and down the country.

“Their childcare plans are a complete mess and many parents say they’re not able to access childcare due to high costs and a lack of places.

Over half of the nurseries are still undecided as to whether they are going to be able to offer the 30 hrs free childcare. If a large percentage of nurseries decide not to offer this childcare this will lead to a shortage of places in many areas of the UK.
