NDNA Maths project to be scrutinised
The Maths Champions Project delivered by NDNA and supported by the Education of Learning is to be scrutinised. The project helps build nursery staffs knowledge and confidence skills. These combined will help improve children’s early Maths skills.
The Education Endownment Foundation (EEF) are requesting a new trial to look at the impact of the project on disadvantaged three and four-year-olds across 120 nurseries in England
The trial is set to start from next may once they get nurseries interested in taking part. If you are interested in taking part contact the EEF or National Day Nurseries Association (NDNA). The NDNA Maths project will provide senior nursery staff with online training and access to online resources and assessment tools.
Maths champions will monitor the quality of maths that is be taught in their nursery, they will also closely look for opportunities to encourage maths in everyday practice through interactions and activities with children.
The trial of the NDNA Maths project will provide nurseries with the much needed information they need to help improve children’s early maths skills.
The findings will be published towards the end of 2017 and will contribute to EEF’s Early Years Toolkit, a summary of research on education.
Purnima Tanuku, chief executive of National Day Nurseries Association (NDNA), said, ‘We are delighted that the benefits of our Maths Champions programme will be identified and evaluated during this trial.
‘We have put the programme through external evaluation before but the Education Endowment Foundation (EEF) will utilise highly sophisticated tools to give us a more accurate and insightful picture than ever.
‘Feedback from the EEF will help us to take the programme to the next level in achieving best possible outcomes for pre-school children that will stand them in really good stead for their future education.’
