New book to help parents choosing a nursery

New book launched to help parents “The Definitive Guide to Choosing a nursery”

Education Consultant Jane Smalley has launched a new guide that will help parents when choosing a nursery for their child. “The Definitive Guide to Choosing a Nursery” is available on Amazon. The books provides parents with advice on what to look for when visiting a nursery, it gives parents the right questions to ask and includes a check-list to help them through the process.

Education Consultant Jane Smalley has visited many nurseries up and down the country and has witnessed a range of standards within the nurseries, she comments: “Having visited literally hundreds of nurseries nationwide, I have seen care that ranges from awful right through to good and outstanding. However, unfortunately, it is not unusual to visit a nursery with a ‘good’ grade from Ofsted which in all reality is offering nothing more than adequate care. “It is my belief that all nurseries should be striving for ‘outstanding’ care – not just because this is what parents should be demanding, but also because when they’re honest, this is what nursery owners and managers want too.”

The book helps provide a picture of what outstanding care should look like; it also addresses the role each person at nursery plays in achieving the best possible outcomes for children. It gives parents guidance on key things to look out for and it provides a tool for parents to review their existing childcare provider.

“The Definitive Guide to Choosing a Nursery” is a great book for not only parents but for childcare practitioners, Jane explains: “Where standards in childcare don’t meet the ‘outstanding’ level that parents should expect, I don’t believe that this is because the nursery owner and manager themselves don’t care. Indeed, given many are parents themselves they will want to ensure they offer the very best care and education for the children in their charge. “My background as an Early Years Education Consultant has allowed me to include guidance in the book that managers and owners will find useful. It covers how to make the changes necessary to raise the quality of the education and care that they provide, as well as support on delivering continuous professional development to their staff. “It is my hope, that through this book, parents will feel better equipped to make the right decision concerning their child’s care, and leaders within the nursery sector will adapt their practices to ensure the very best care is on offer.”
