170 new childcare places due to £500k boost from Government
Over a 170 new childcare places will be available in Swindon thanks to a near £500,000 boost from Government. This will mean families will benefit from the extra childcare places available, meaning more children will be accessing early education.
The £500,000 boost from the government was announced by Early Years Minister Caroline Dinenage, the aim of the £500,000 boost is to reinforce the government investment and support nurseries, pre school and playgroups with create a new building and upgrade their existing facilities.
The grant totaling nearly £500, 000 will be given to providers in the Swindon area, this includes Chiseldon Primary School and Nursery, Playsteps Nursery, Lainsmead Primary School and Nursery and Uplands Educational Trust and the Brunel Special Educational Needs Multi Academy Trust.

Providers, Brunel and Uplands Education Trust will work closely with the council to expand the availability for three and fours years olds with Special Educational needs and disability to access the 30hrs free childcare scheme.
Creating a further 170 childcare places with help remove the barriers that many parents face when returning to work or starting a new job, as the cost of childcare for some parents is their entire wage.
Providers who have been successful in being awarded the grants are set to start building work later on this year and work will be completed by spring 2018.
