Prime Minister Theresa May announces an election

Theresa May wins parliament’s backing of an election on the 8th June

Prime Minister sprung a surprise on the nation about holding an election on the 8th of June, only a handful of people know about it.

With the election to go ahead, it could be a perfect opportunity to rethink the 30hrs free childcare scheme which was a decision made by conservatives.  More money should be invested further to make it manageable for nurseries, childminders and parents, without these extra funds the scheme will fail.

It is hoped that during this election reference is made about the early years and is not all about the Brexit. It is highly important that all political parties use this opportunity to look at things more clearly and put the quality of childcare and the needs of the children at the centre of the discussion.

The introduction of the 30hrs was a key conservative pledge in the 2015 election since then many people feel it was not thought through correctly, the pledge was announced before thinking about the consequences. If funding is properly sourced and given to providers, this scheme would be a fantastic opportunity for families and children. However, more money needs to be invested in making it successful for everyone.

Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn has backed the decision about the election on the 8th June. Theresa May won the support of 522 lawmakers in the 650-seat parliament for an election on the 8th June. Only 13 voted against it.
