Batman and his Batmobile spray-painted on a wall of a nursery
Nursery manager Charlotte Harris said: “At the moment we are doing a big thing on superheroes in our community and celebrating things like that and also looking at diversity within arts such as graffiti and street dance and things like that.
“It’s been absolutely great and with the new Batman v Superman film out at the moment, the timing is superb.
“The Bat Cave, which is our out of school club, will be doing letters to say thank you.
“We keep saying it’s an outstanding piece of art for our outstanding nursery.”
The nursery’s early years teacher Lorraine Watson said that local children love the famous detective.
She said: “It was such a surprise for the children, and they were so excited when they saw it.
“The look on some of their faces was magical, and we now have our own Bat Cave.
“This is the first time we have had a giant piece of art on our building, and it is really great.
“We have the children working on their own versions, and it is a real talking point.”
The nursery which opened 24-years-ago caters for children aged up to 11-years-old and also puts on before and after school clubs.
Some of the inspiration for the Batman comics comes from a series of folk tales written about the village – some involving mad local people.
Gotham councillor Andrew Brown said: “The artwork is absolutely fantastic.
“Batman has a huge following across the world, and it is nice to have a link to that.
“I think the village could do a lot more with the superhero to bring new people to the area.
“It is always good to see things like this pop up in the village.”
