Q – “Does anybody have any ideas for a home corner/role play area for 0-2 year olds, or any photos of their own areas please?”
Answers –
A – “We were always advised by our foundation stage county liaisons to keep it as a home corner because it is something familiar that all children of this age group have experienced and can relate to”
A – “We have a home role play area all the time and sometimes another role play area to link to a particular theme. We were advised that all children should have access to a home role play area at all times.”
A – “I like setting up little areas that go with my planning, such as teddy bears picnic, bathing babies, beach themes ect! We also like making tented areas for quiet time to read stories!”
A – “A bear cave or santas grotto/toyshop, sensory area, cafe-we had ours as mcdonalds once where some could make the burgers and some could eat in”
A – “A bakery with play dough, with different spices in etc, use cake cases, and other materials to decorate such as pom poms, sticks, sprinkles”
A – “A lot of people do sensory areas. With like tube lights, pillows, teddies. Anything touchy – feely Bottle shakers, Paint section. (Some do in a large box and allow to do has please inside) Sand pit, Bubble machines. Check out sensory classes”
A – “Pets/vets corner with teddies and play stethoscopes etc. Doctors too.”
A – “Our older baby room started off by using teasers, small cupboards etc to get then used to role playing”
A – “Seasonal: polar landscape and igloo in January, Obviously toy shop/ work shop in December , Spring garden centre, Dinosaur dig, Laundry is good, Go with their interests”
A – “Shoe shop”
